Below-market: Whidbey Home-Raising

One of the ways to create affordable housing is to build a small house that is below market value, and will never appreciate to market value. We are teaming up to do just this!

By leveraging community generosity, social investors, grants and as yet to be discovered creative solutions we will be building a below-market value home… and it will remain permanently below-market value thanks to a deed-restriction. This is our challenge and our vision!

People who want to help make that happen are already pitching in to make it a reality. A social investor… a pro bono owner-builder project manager… a volunteer building team leader… volunteer carpenters and skilled labor…pro bono site prep. We are just starting on the long list of everything that needs to be done to build this home. Stay tuned for more details!

This is a Whidbey Home-Raising!

  1. I love the idea and reality of community-based home creation for truly affordable housing! What a creative and timely action plan to help ease the acute shortage of such homes, especially on south Whidbey.

Hopefully, this build at Upper Langley Cohousing will serve as a viable model to attract more such people-to-people projects that serve individuals and families who strive to become homeowners as well as foster a socially healthier community for all. Thank you!
